Flowers are so Basic. This Mother’s Day, give the special mom in your life the gift of free speech!
And even if you’re not a mom or have never met one, I gotta say . . .
The Unspeakeasy online community is frickin’ amazing. It’s like a social media platform that only contains smart, nuanced people you want to hear from, discussing topics you’re dying to talk about. Oh, and it’s private. Nothing you say there can go anywhere. It’s more like anti-social media.
So what’s actually in it? We can’t show you inside, but there are lots of details and FAQs here. And I’m serious about the mom thing. There’s a whole discussion forum devoted to parenting in this crazy political and social climate. Plus lots of talk in all kinds of forums about moms and daughters. The comment threads about Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret alone could take you some time to catch up on.
When we launched a few months ago, we offered an introductory rate of $99 for a year of membership at the “Heretic” level. (That’s our basic membership level; there’s also “Pariah” and, if you want to get really crazy, “Stunning and Brave.”) On Monday, that rate will go up to $150/year.
That works out to $12.50/month, so it’s still a good deal. But wouldn’t you rather pay $8.25/month? We do ask that the entire year be paid upfront, since that helps protect members’ privacy and ensures everyone is there in good faith. (We’ve also implemented a new screening policy that requires a quick and easy application process.) But don’t let the big number deter you. It’s still cheaper than the scream therapy you need from watching your friends virtue signal on Facebook all day.
Speaking of which, here’s what they’re saying about us on Facebook. Or at least on a comment thread replying to our stealth social media ads.
Could there be any better incentive than that?
So come on in, ladies. And, gentlemen, remember what I said last time. If you’re jealous, help us grow so we can expand the enterprise and offer large events for everyone. (Though we will always keep the women-only retreats and online community.)
Happy Mother’s Free Speech Day.
Just to be clear: The Unspeakeasy is not connected to Substack. Believe me, I know what a pain it is to be asked to subscribe to so many things. This is the scourge of our times and this economy. But this particular project is, by necessity and by design, its own entity. So even though I'm using Substack to TELL you about The Unspeakeasy, it's its own thing.
