Meghan: thank you so much for having this conversation! I knew much of this stuff already but definitely not all of it. I keep meaning to read Shrier’s book. It really is concerning the way far left movements have taken over in many respects and have been incredibly successful in decrying and/or silencing any dissenting voices. I’m a dem centrist and I of course support gay rights and LGBTQ rights etc. But when it involves children things get trickier. We have to be able to debate and dialogue about these contentious issues. Questioning some of the narrative isn’t anti-trans; it’s pro-human. Again, great discussion. This is why I’m a paid subscriber :)

You are correct that the "individual rights" matrix must be modified in the context of minor children.

What's sad is that parents are consenting to these invasive and life-altering procedures.

Parents cannot consent to having their 14 year old drive, buy alcohol or vote - there is a strict prohibition. We need the same kind of legal restriction on invasive elective surgery. Once you're 18, knock yourself out, so to speak.

This conversation kicked me over the edge in terms of LBG et al. I have long since used queer instead of the alphabet, but I haven't pushed back except to say I prefer queer. But, I am pushing back now. I formally divorce T and all other letters. "T" as in transgender - as opposed to transexual - is opposed to everything I deeply believe. They don't get to hitch on to LBG - at least in my circles. I will say LBG if I want to refer specifically to people who are sexually attracted to the opposite (biological!) sex. I will use queer for everyone who doesn't feel they fit in the straight category, including transgender or non-binary folks. I will not now, or ever, use cisgender as it ends up supporting their nonsense. Straight/ queer is fine. Thanks for clarifying.
